SIBU, May 10: Fireworks were reportedly stored inside one of two double-storey semi-detached houses that were destroyed in a fire on Jalan Apollo Barat this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) from Sungai Merah and Sibu Central responded to the emergency at 11.06am, deploying a team of 23 firefighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the blaze had engulfed both homes.
House number 12A was 90 per cent destroyed, along with a Toyota Innova parked on the premises, which was completely burned. House number 12B sustained 80 per cent damage.
Fortunately, all eight occupants from both houses managed to escape unharmed.
Guided by the RECEO (Rescue, Exposure, Confinement, Extinguishment, Overhaul) strategy, the operation was conducted using the offensive method.
Sungai Merah Bomba team deployed two 300-foot hose lines and two nozzles, drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant. Sibu Central Bomba team also deployed one 300-foot hose line and two nozzles to assist in containing and extinguishing the fire.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation by Bomba. — DayakDaily
