MIRI, Nov 5: A vessel owned Sarawak Slipway Sdn Bhd caught fire today while docked at a shipyard still under construction near Kuala Baram.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lutong Station, with assistance from Lopeng Station, responded to the emergency at 3.18pm and immediately deployed a team of firefighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the fire raging in the main deck and wheelhouse deck, resulting in approximately 60 per cent damage to the ship.
After assessing the situation using the RECEO concept, they deployed a 200-foot hose with two water nozzles from the fire truck to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The cause of the fire and the estimated loss are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
