Fire consumes two shophouses in Jalan Mantis, Sibu

SIBU, Sept 8: Firefighters are still engaged in extinguishing a fire that razed two three-storey shophouses at Jalan Mantis today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak reported that firefighters from Sibu and Sungai Merah stations were dispatched to the location following a distress call at 10.49am.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the first floor of the hardware shop was ablaze, with the flames having spread to the second floor.

The blaze was successfully brought under control at around noon, but not before the fire also spread to an adjacent shophouse.

Initial reports indicates no casualties at this point in time. — DayakDaily
