SIBU, Feb 6: For months, homeless individuals had found some relief in a wooden house at Jalan Kampung Datu which served as a makeshift shelter where they could find rest from the unforgiving elements.

However, they now must search for another place as the wooden house was razed to the ground by fire this morning.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sibu received the alert at 7.12am. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a garbage dump next to the road was also on fire.

Acting Sibu Bomba chief Wan Kamaruddin Wan Ahmad revealed the fire was caused by a paper egg tray which was being burnt as a mosquito repellent by certain people nearby.

“The fire from the tray was believed to have accidentally spread to the wooden house for the homeless which later burnt down,” he explained.

Firefighters used an auxiliary flow from the engine pump to control and extinguish the fire within five minutes.

No injuries were reported. ā€” DayakDaily
