KUCHING, July 16: The Finnish government is keen to further strengthen cooperation with Sarawak in the areas of renewable energy and digitalisation, through initiatives focused on the green transition and sustainable development.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Ambassador of Finland to Malaysia, Anne Vasara, expressed her enthusiasm over the prospect of expanding bilateral cooperation with Malaysia, especially with Sarawak, in several strategic sectors including renewable energy, digital technology, education, and the green transition.
“We see numerous opportunities in Finland that could translate into mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly in renewable energy and digitalisation.
“This includes various facets of the green transition. We also discussed ongoing collaborations in education and the forestry sector, and explored potential areas such as modernising palm oil production using sustainable and innovative practices,” she said.
Vasara made these remarks after a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in conjunction with the International Energy Week (IEW) 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday (July 15).
She further highlighted Finland’s strong interest in expanding bilateral cooperation, investment, and trade, particularly with Sarawak and the broader Southeast Asian region, which she described as increasingly significant in the global arena.
“Our Minister of Trade and Development visited here last May, and we are actively looking at ways to deepen our collaboration, with more high-level visits in the pipeline,” she affirmed.
During the meeting, Vasara also extended an official invitation to the Sarawak Premier to attend the Vaasa Energy Week in Finland, an esteemed international event similar in stature to IEW, with a focus on green energy and clean technology.— DayakDaily
