KUCHING, JAN 20: The Ministry of Finance has approved an additional allocation of RM1 billion to upgrade and build better infrastructure along Sarawak and Sabah’s border.
The land border consists of a stretch of 1,881km that separates Sarawak and Sabah in Malaysia, and Indonesia’s province of Kalimantan.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this was decided after his recent discussion with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the relocation of Indonesia’s capital to Nusantara, Kalimantan.
“Apart from basic infrastructure such as road, the additional allocation will also be used to increase Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) Complex’s capabilities which also includes the police and military force.
“Commencement of work will be immediate,” Anwar said at a press conference after chairing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council meeting today.
Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak affairs Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. — DayakDaily
