Filter blockage fixed, water supply in Kanowit to be restored in stages

KUCHING, Sept 6: A filter blockage on the filtration tanks had disrupted the running of water supply from the tanks into the clear water well at the Kanowit Water Treatment Plant, near Sibu.

Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) informed in a media release today that investigation on Aug 30 found that the filter blockage was the cause of water supply problem which had affected Kanowit district.

“Immediate actions have been carried out to clean the residue on the sand filter at the water treatment plant,” the statement said.

“JBALB Sibu Division has also delivered water using tanker trucks to areas affected from Sept 2 until now,” it added.

The public have been informed about the situation through social media via JBALB Sibu Division Facebook page(Rakan JBALB Bahagian Sibu).

JBALB explained that the technical issue involving the water filter was successfully resolved and the system was fully restored by 5pm yesterday (Sept 5).

“Water supply is expected to be restored in stages today and delivery of clean water to affected areas will continue until the water supply is fully restored,” JBALB assured.

The Department extended their appreciation to the locals in affected areas for their patience.
