KUCHING, Sept 6: A businessman, who had been suffering from depression since his wife passed away two years ago, decided to end his life by hanging himself, yesterday.

The 48-year-old deceased from Batu Kitang here was found hanging at his bedroom door on the upper floor, next to the staircase, by his sister at 11.30am.

According to Padawan police district chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, they received an emergency call at 1.15pm from a medical assistant at the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan about a suicide case.

“When police arrived at the scene at 1.50pm, they found the victim lying on the floor beside the stairs in the living room,” he said in a statement today.

“Initial investigations revealed no element of crime,” he added.

According to the victim’s sister, he was the fourth siblings in the family and a successful sub-contractor, with two children.

However, after his wife passed away in November 2017, he started to suffer from depression, distanced himself from people, and often felt anxious but remained silent.

She added that three days ago, the victim had complained about being stressed and she offered to take him for medical check up.

After visiting the doctor at Permai Specialist yesterday (Sept 5) morning, the victim then told her to go home as he wanted to rest.

Feeling uneasy over her brother’s condition, she decided to go back to the house to check on him, only to find him dead from an apparent suicide.

The victim’s body was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital’s mortuary and an autopsy is expected to be carried out today.— DayakDaily
