BEKENU, Aug 7: Ministry of Health (MoH) through National Cancer Society of Malaysia will bear the cost of transporting cancer patients in Sarawak seeking medical treatment in Kuala Lumpur.
According to a report by TVS, Deputy Minister of Health, Lukanisman Awang Sauni, said in order to do that, village chiefs and community leaders (KMKK) or tuai rumah must report these cases involving their residents to the ministry first.
“There are cases of Sarawakians going to Kuala Lumpur to seek cancer treatment especially involving our children because we (Sarawak) do not have our own specialist centre in the State.
“Thus, for parents whose children are suffering from cancer, we give assurance that the cost of airfare and taxi rides would be borne through National Cancer Society of Malaysia,” he said during Sibuti Community Healthcare Carnival held at Bekenu Community Hall yesterday (Aug 6).
For the record, the Sarawak government has set aside an RM1 billion allocation to build Sarawak Cancer Centre in Kota Samarahan to offer cancer treatments for patients so that they do not have to fly to Kuala Lumpur. — DayakDaily
