KUCHING, Oct 3: The federal government aims to lift the ban on interstate travel in the country once 90 per cent adults have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said this will be implemented very soon pending the National Security Council (NSC)’s announcement.

“We are hoping to announce interstate travel (very soon) so that we can implement travel bubble in Sarawak.

“However, I do not have the authority to make the announcement… the decision must be made by the NSC, so we will leave it to NSC to announce,” she said at a press conference during a working visit to Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) here today.

She further mentioned that Langkawi is the first State to implement travel bubble on Sept 16, 2021.

Following that, the tourism industry on the island has recorded an encouraging recovery through the visits of 38,748 tourists which generated an estimated tourism receipts of more than RM15 million in two weeks’ time. — DayakDaily
