KUCHING, July 10: The federal government is expected to present a Bill to repeal the Bintulu Port Authority Act 1981 in Parliament next week.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he would bring the matter to the Cabinet meeting this Friday (July 12), adding that the details have been submitted to the secretariat.
“I need to get the Cabinet Ministers’ approval first before the Bill can be tabled in Dewan Rakyat.
“If it is approved by the Cabinet this Friday, then the first reading will take place next week, but I am not sure how many (MPs) would debate it,” he said at a press conference in Parliament today, as reported by TVS.
Prior to this, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the repeal of the Bintulu Port Authority Act 1981 would be tabled in the ongoing Parliament session before Bintulu Port is handed over to the Sarawak government.
Last March, the Sarawak and federal governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise the change of Bintulu Port’s status from a federal port to a State port. — DayakDaily
