MIRI, Feb 24: Miri City Council (MCC) will be organising Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 from Mar 12 to 13, 2022 at Tamu Batu 1, Kuala Baram, Miri to showcase various activities in the forthcoming ‘Bubuk’ season.Â
Bubuk is a type of sea produce of small shrimp which is usually found along sea fronts and becomes abundant in March in Miri.Â
After the bubuk harvesting, one can produce ‘belacan’ or shrimp paste, ‘cincalok’; fermented shrimp sauce and dried shrimp fritters which are local delights among Mirians and Sarawakians as well as neighbouring Bruneians.Â
Among the activities to be organised are the Pesta Bubuk Sea Cruise, a kite display competition, a bubuk cooking competition and a mass beach Zumba exercise.
Councillor Warziedea Ahmad, the Council’s Standing Committee for Tourism Development chairperson who is also the organising chairperson of Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 said that the official launching ceremony of the festival has been fixed on Mar 12 at 8am while the closing ceremony on Mar 13 will start at 9am at the same venue.Â
The orgnaising committee has planned to invite Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to officiate the launch of Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 and Miri City mayor Adam Yii to officiate the closing ceremony.Â
Pesta Bubuk Miri 2022 is a tourism event initiated by MCC Standing Committee Tourism Development and it will be the first time the festival is held on such a grand scale with the intention to promote it as an annual event in the Miri Calendar of Tourism Events in the future. — DayakDaily
