KUCHING, June 6: Kuching City FC chairman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has expressed his readiness to take on the presidency of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) if given the opportunity, with a clear vision to revitalise football across the State—starting from the grassroots level.

He stated that football has always been his passion, and if entrusted with the leadership of FAS, he intends to re-evaluate its role and redefine its direction.

ā€œFor me, it’s no longer just about forming a football team—it’s about bringing football to the people. That would be my tagline: bringing football to the grassroots,ā€ he told reporters when met after officiating the opening ceremony of the MetroCity Convention Centre (MCCC) today.

According to Fazzrudin, he already has several ideas on how to realise his dream of developing Sarawak football, but acknowledged that it cannot be done alone and would require a strong and supportive team.

ā€œFAS is not a football team—it’s the Football Association of Sarawak. And we need to form a solid team within FAS that can realise the vision and mission of what Sarawak football should become,ā€ he added.

When asked if he was ready to take on the role of FAS president, Fazzrudin simply replied: ā€œInsya-Allah, I’m ready.ā€

He also addressed the current structure of football in Sarawak, noting that Kuching City FC, which competes in the Super League, operates under the Football Association of Kuching—one of FAS’s affiliates—and that this structure will remain unchanged.

ā€œThere will be no new teams. But I want to expand FAS’s role to reach out more effectively to the grassroots,ā€ he emphasised.

FAS is scheduled to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 14, with the spotlight on the appointment of a new president for the 2025–2027 term.
