KUCHING, Feb 17: Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah encourages Sarawakian athletes with disabilities to bring fame to Sarawak and Malaysia on the international stage.
She said such a feat is not impossible and has been proven achievable by history.
“We can be not only champions at the national level, but also internationally,” she said during a KPWK session with Malaysia Games (Sukma) para athletes 2022, held at a hotel here today.
At the same time, Fatimah said, in its efforts to empower the OKU community in the State, Sarawak government has approve a project under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) worth RM55 million.
She said the project which is the Special Needs Community Centre (SNCC), will have holistic training programmes to assist OKU across the spectrum, from birth to the end of life.
“After diagnosis, the intervention process will be carried out followed by the rehabilitation process as needed.
“Furthermore, educational opportunities are also given to them either in mainstream schools or special schools, including training programmes,” she added.
Fatimah pointed out that this is in line with what is in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Manifesto 2021, which is to guarantee equal rights of all Sarawakians.
“We are determined to ensure that what is listed as No. 3 in the GPS Manifesto in the previous Sarawak State Election will be implemented, which is to guarantee inclusive equality rights for all. This is our promise,” she said. — DayakDaily
