SIBU, August 1: Police are investigating the motive behind the killing of a 46-year-old man who was gunned down in his family’s fruit orchard.
The victim had been identified as Pang Neng Hua.
“We are still investigating the motive and type of gun used in the shooting. We advise the public not to speculate on the case,” said Sibu District police chief ACP Zulkifli Suhaili at a press conference here today.
Asked whether the victim was the leader of a gang called ‘Lo Han’, he said the matter is still under investigation.
He however said that the victim had three previous records for violent crime under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
Suhaili said the police were informed about the shooting at 1.23am by the public.
A police investigation revealed that the victim and two friends aged 46 and 36 went to eat at the orchard at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman at 9.30pm on July 31.
“At about 11.30pm, they were about to go back. However, when one of the victim’s friends was locking the gate, a suspect came forward and fired several shots at close range
“The friends managed to run and hide. After 30 minutes, they came out from their hiding place and found the victims lying on the ground,” he said.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital by his two friends and family members. He was pronounced dead at 1.55 am.”
Zulkipli said the investigation found eight gunshot wounds on the victim’s body while one of his friends sustained minor injury on his face.
He said according to the two friends, there were two suspects firing at them at the scene.
Police are investigating under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — DayakDaily
