SIBU, Nov 12: If road users continue to defy traffic rules, Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing will have no choice but to instruct the relevant authorities to close off an intersection at Jalan Lada following an accident that claimed the life of a 19-year-old motorcyclist on Nov 11.

In a statement issued today, Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, urged road users to learn from the accident and recognise the importance of adhering to traffic rules rather than engaging in reckless driving in the name of convenience.

“From what I understand, many road users take the risk of driving the wrong way at this intersection, creating a constant hazard and posing a serious threat to road safety.

“The cause of this accident was the driver’s failure to follow traffic rules, opting to drive against traffic for convenience, ultimately colliding with a motorcyclist travelling in the correct direction,” he said.

He added that if road users continue to ignore traffic rules, he will have no choice but to instruct the authorities to close off the intersection.

Tiong said should it come to this, he urged the public to understand that the measure will be for the safety of all road users.

“I issue this final reminder to all road users: for the safety of yourselves and others, please follow traffic regulations. Only with everyone’s cooperation can we ensure safe journeys for all.” — DayakDaily
