SIBU,June 6: A second woman has passed away following an accident involving a car and a tanker at Kilometer (KM) 49, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu today.
Earlier in the initial report, one female victim was confirmed dead at the scene while two other women were rushed to the Selangau Health Clinic for further treatment by members of the public.
The three women were travelling together in the car.
The victims were identified as Kinun Anyum, 74, and Lidun Meru, 60.
Dalat District Police Chief DSP Saga Chunggat said Kinun who was in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Selangau Health Clinic.
“The victim (Kinun) died while receiving treatment at the clinic while Lidun died at the scene,” he said when contacted, today.
Saga said the third woman, Wani Sempurai, 51, who was the driver of the car, suffered serious injuries and is still being treated.
He said the accident happened when the Proton Saga driver, Wani was trying to turn into a road junction when the car was hit from behind by the tanker involved.
As a result of the collision, he said, Lidun who was in the back seat of the car died at the scene.
According to Saga, the 45-year-old tanker driver was uninjured.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987, he added. — DayakDaily
