Fatal accident near Mukah leaves one deceased, another seriously injured


MUKAH, Jan 23: An elderly woman was killed while a man was seriously injured in a road accident involving two motorcycles at Kilometer (KM) 73 of Jalan Sibu-Bintulu near here today.

The deceased who was a housewife, 76, was pronounced dead by a medical team from Selangau Health Clinic at the scene.

Mukah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Muhamad Rizal Alias ​​said the incident happened at 9am.


He said, the police’s initial investigation found that the deceased was riding a motorcycle from the direction of Selangau towards Sibu when she collided with another motorcycle ridden by a 50-year-old man from the opposite direction.

“As a result of the accident, the woman succumbed to serious head injuries and a broken arm and left leg,” he said today.

He said the other motorcyclist was also seriously injured in the head and broke his left leg.

According to Muhamad, the victim’s body was taken by the police to the Mukah Hospital mortuary for further action.

The police investigation also revealed the seriously injured motorcyclist did not have a valid B2 licence and was riding against the traffic at the time of the incident.

Tthe case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. — DayakDaily
