KUCHING, July 2: A family of four who have been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic has received food aid as well as monetary assistance from generous members of the public.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who witnessed the handing over of the assistance, said their plight was highlighted by their neighbor, who contacted him personally to inform them.

According to Lo, Dato Sri Charles Voon Jan Poh and his family, upon hearing about the matter on social media, had come forward to extend their help.

He explained that the family consists of two adults and two children, where the father is working as a general worker in a construction company in Bako, while the mother, who worked at a coffee shop, has been out of job since the beginning of the pandemic.

The couple have two children together; a 12-year-old daughter who has not gotten any formal education since birth, and a three-month old baby girl.

Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman, also assured that he will try his best to help their daughter get an education, and will seek the assistance from the Welfare Department regarding the matter.

Earlier, Lo also presented a hearing aid to a deaf individual, courtesy of committee members from the Mile 3 to 6 Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

The hearing aid, which cost RM2,800, was presented during a simple ceremony held at Taman Flora Indah in Jalan Arang, this evening.

Lo also conveyed his gratitude to those who came forward to provide assistance to those in need, and encouraged members of the public, especially in his N13 constituency, to do the same. — DayakDaily
