KUCHING, Nov 29: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the clear choice for Sarawakians as it has proven itself to be united, stable and competent in steering Sarawak through the pandemic recovery period.

According to GPS’ chief whip in Parliament Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, a statement by Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh recently which chides Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chief Chong Chieng Jen, as well as various statements by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) against DAP over the allocation of State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in the coming Sarawak Elections is clear proof that these groups are more interested in their respective power grabs compared to the wellbeing of Sarawak and its people.

He said these parties have no qualms about accepting political frogs and they argue endlessly about who gets what and how to share the spoils in their aim to take control of Sarawak.

“The political stability and incompetence shown by these groups of people since the 14th General Election (GE14) led to the wellbeing of Malaysians and the development of other states being negatively impacted.

“It shows very clearly why a strong, united, stable, competent and proven Sarawak government which respects the rights of all ethnic groups and religion, and is fully focused on development, must be the clear choice to steer Sarawak through this critical period of the pandemic recovery.

“This is why GPS must be the clear choice for all Sarawakians in the upcoming elections,” he said in a statement today.

Fadillah, who is also Senior Works Minister, emphasised that GPS remains fully committed to fulfilling the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s visions for Sarawak, which is a peaceful, harmonious, and multi-cultural Sarawak, as well as a progressive and developed Sarawak which strongly protects its rights from peninsula-based political parties.

He cited as an example the joint-declaration by Adenan together with the federal government in April 2015 that in Sarawak, all transportation must be toll-free and ferry-free.

“Today, we have successfully delivered toll-free (travel) for the entire Sarawak when all existing tolls were abolished in 2016 as proof of this. The rapid progress in opening up the various stages of the fully toll-free Pan Borneo Highway that will bring great progress, comfort and safety for all Sarawakians is more proof of this.

“Although delayed by the cancellation of funding by the previous Pakatan Harapan government post-GE14, Sarawak will also be fully ferry free in the year 2026 when all 11 bridges are fully completed.

“Bridges already recently completed and already in use include Batang Sadong Bridge (2016) and Batang Samarahan (2018). Nine other bridges funded by the Sarawak government are also in various phases of construction and are expected to open to traffic in the next four years,” he added.

Fadillah also pointed out that in protecting Sarawak’s rights and land, GPS had also completed buying back the Bakun dam from the federal government in 2017 at a price that will ensure Sarawak will profit greatly in future after the dam was taken by the federal government under the fourth prime minister (PM4).

“It is on our land and it is our right to take back. Because of this, Sarawak now fully controls its own electricity generation and transmission capacity and Sarawakians enjoy the the lowest tariffs and cleanest electricity in Malaysia.

“This is a critical period and we have clear plans and goals in place that GPS is already executing to steer Sarawak during the recovery phase and towards greater development and a better life for all Sarawakians.

“Let us fulfill our vision for Sarawak. Let us not be disturbed by bickering and disunited groups who are incompetent, only interested in grabbing power but have no clear plans for Sarawak,” he said. — DayakDaily
