KUCHING, Dec 6: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for granting him the confidence to focus on Sabah and Sarawak affairs, particularly the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Fadillah also thanked Anwar for listening to the people of Sarawak, notably the request made by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“I was tasked with ensuring that all MA63-related matters are expedited, especially those that cause anxiety and must be resolved immediately.

“In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister 1 (Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and I were tasked with ensuring that the problem-solving measures would reduce the economic disparity between the people of the Peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak,” he said yesterday (Dec 5) in Putrajaya, after being given responsibility for MA63 by Anwar.

He continued stating, “Thank you YAB Prime Minister for the trust given. Thank you also for listening to the voice of the people of Sarawak, especially the request voiced by YAB Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.”

Fadillah also emphasised that the Premier of Sarawak previously appealed to the Federal government to facilitate negotiations to restore Sarawak’s eroded rights in MA63.

“The Premier of Sarawak hopes that negotiations on multiple issues will result in positive outcomes for the greater good,” he remarked. — DayakDaily
