KUCHING, Oct 20: The 14-day campaigning period for the 15th General Election (GE15) as announced by the Election Commission (EC) is sufficient, asserts Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) senior vice-president said he believed all the parties that will compete are prepared and have been for quite some time.
“I believe every potential candidate for each constituency have already mobilised their activities on the field from the very beginning.
“Furthermore, in this age of information technology (IT), I am sure candidates will make use of social media platforms to campaign as this is an instant method to disseminate and convey information to voters,” Fadillah said in a statement today.
Fadillah, who is also the caretaker senior Minister of Public Works said GPS is ready and will stand in all Parliamentary seats in Sarawak.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh announced today that GE15 will be held on Nov 19 with nomination set for Nov 5, and early voting on Nov 15.
The campaigning period is set for 14 days beginning after the nomination process on Nov 5 until 11.59pm, Nov 18.
“The percentage of registered voters expected to go out and vote will be higher because Nov 19 is a Saturday. The majority of people from all walks of life and every corner of the country will have ample time,” Fadillah added.
He also hoped that all the parties and candidates will comply with the EC’s guidelines and laws to ensure that GE15 proceeds smoothly. — DayakDaily
