KUCHING, Oct 20: Boats are ready in Kapit for the coming 15th General Election (GE15) which will be held during the monsoon season, says Kapit incumbent Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said the challenges of campaigning and voting during the monsoons are expected, especially in rural Sarawak where only river transport is available such as in Kapit.

Therefore, he said, all preparations had begun since after the Sarawak election last December, all the more when speculations were rife that GE15 would be held this year.

“The challenge this time is that we may have to face the monsoon season and in Sarawak, the constituencies are huge.

“Like in Kapit, we still need rivers and boats to reach places that have yet to be connected with roads.

“We know the challenges, but we are ready with the boats and all the other necessities we have already taken into consideration for months now,” he told reporters when approached today.

Nanta, who is also Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general, advised rural voters to plan ahead so that they could arrive at their polling stations on time.

As for voters who may have difficulties reaching their polling stations, he said that candidates of each constituency should be on standby to help the people to avoid any misfortune. — DayakDaily
