Factory biogas lagoon destroyed in early morning fire

KUCHING, Aug 13: A total of 90 per cent of the biogas lagoon belonging to a factory in Sibuti, Batu Niah, was destroyed in an early dawn fire incident, today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) in a statement said after receiving the call regarding the incident at 2.15 am, a team of seven firefighters from BBP Batu Niah was deployed to the location, led by PBKII KUP Azizul Rahman Sa’adi.

“Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the incident occurred at the Biogas Lagoon (Anaerobic Pond No.1) of Tetangga Akrab 2 factory in Sibuti, Batu Niah, and destroyed 90 per cent of the Biogas Lagoon area. However, firefighters managed to put out the flame and control the situation,” it said.

It was also noted that the operation ended at 5.40am, and the cause of fire and the loss are still under investigation.

The biogas lagoon is used to filter palm oil waste before being discharged into the river.—DayakDaily
