SMD Semiconductor chief executive officer (CEO) Shariman Jamil emphasised that the company believes that the next generation of tech innovators can come from Sarawak.

“At SMD, we’re looking for talents who are ready to take on real-world challenges in chip design, AI and intelligent systems. Through platforms like SCaTFair, we’re creating opportunities for Sarawakians to step into the global tech arena—starting right here at home.”

“SMD is not just building chips—it’s building a Silicon Longhouse in the Samajaya High Tech Zone, where Sarawak’s heritage meets cutting-edge innovation,” he said in a media release today.

Meet the SMD Semiconductor team at SCaTFair 2025 at BCCK from July 5-6.

At the core of this mission is the Semiconductor Mastery Programme, a six-month specialised training in Analogue Integrated Circuit (IC) Design and IC Test Solution Development Engineering.

This flagship initiative is conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), along with industry leaders such as Melexis NV (Belgium), X-Fab Sarawak (Germany), and Centexs.

SMD also partners with local universities to drive advanced education and specialised talent development, including a postgraduate microelectronics programme in collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak.

This talent-first mission is strongly backed by the Sarawak Government. The Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, envisions Sarawak as a thriving hub for the global semiconductor industry, propelled by strategic partnerships and homegrown talent.
