KUCHING, April 8: Mark your calendars for Bung Bratak Day, a significant annual event in Bidayuh culture, which will take place on May 1.

The chairman of the Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA), Dato Peter Minos, emphasised that the upcoming event will feature captivating Bidayuh cultural dances and music performed by the talented communities of Kampung Selampit, Kampung Opar, and Kampung Serayan.

“This year, five local groups will be showcasing and offering a variety of delicious Bidayuh foods and drinks to visitors and the general public.

“There will be a display of traditional games featuring participants from Kampung Jugan and the Krokong area.

“Aside from that, the popular band High Breed from Kampung Semeba will provide local songs and music, and well-known singer Claudia Geres from Kampung Garung, Padawan, will perform both new and old songs,” Minos was quoted as saying in a press statement.

Furthermore, according to him, Bung Bratak Day is anticipated to draw in several thousand visitors this year, including Europeans.

“Everyone is welcome to attend Bung Bratak Day and celebrate the iconic Bidayuh cultural and historical event.

“Entrance is free that day, in accordance with Bidayuh culture and tradition of not charging visitors.

“Due to limited parking uphill, visitors are encouraged to make a half-hour trek.”

Minos also stated that Bung Bratak Day begins with a hill climbing competition, the Bratakthon, at 6am, but visitors are welcome by 8am.
