SIBU, Nov 16: The 2023 Christmas Festival will take place from December 8 to 25 at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 1.

Organising committee chairman Councilor Simon Wee said the theme of the celebration is ‘A Classic Christmas’ and it will be packed with activities and enlivened with a Christmas atmosphere.

“The celebration this time is different from the others because we are presenting this festival venue as a ‘Christmas Wonderland’ with decorations of light to create the Christmas mood.

“Among them are Christmas architecture, Christmas trees, trains around the square, artificial snow, a giant Santa Claus and many more that make you feel like you are in a ‘Christmas Wonderland’,” he said at a press conference here today.

According to him, a total of 87 food and drink stalls will participate in the festival in addition to food trucks that will be decorated with Christmas decorations.

This time, he explained, a total of 12 private sector bodies were involved in the Christmas architectural decoration competition.

“Actually, this competition usually involves Christmas trees, but we changed it by decorating Christmas architecture according to each other’s creativity, because using Christmas trees is very expensive,” he explained.

To enliven the festival, as many as seven local churches here will stage performances and ‘busking’ activities on the main stage of the town square every night.

Wee further explained that a ‘Christmas Zumba Party’ will be held on December 23 starting at 7.15pm for those who enjoy exercising for fitness, and participation is free.

“A total of 10 food trucks will participate in the decoration competition. We also have a stall selling souvenirs for Christmas gifts,” he added.

Also present at the press conference was Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Rosely. — DayakDaily
