KUCHING, Nov 23: Step into the ‘Memory of Christmas’ at the Plaza Merdeka Shopping Centre, where from today until Jan 31, 2023, shoppers can check out the new giant Christmas tree outside, which is decked out with reindeers, bells, and gleaming baubles, and explore the Christmas bazaar at the Main Atrium, which features quaint stalls set among an enchanting Christmas landscape.

Shoppers can also stop by the Secondary Atrium to admire the yummy gingerbread house nestled among the lush sparkling Christmas trees and giant lollipops, which is the perfect festive backdrop for an annual Christmas photo.

According to its press release, Plaza Merdeka has a special place in its heart for Christmas, as its first festive launch coincided with the month the shopping centre opened to the public on Dec 12, 2021.

As a result, this year’s Christmas is meaningfully themed ‘Memory of Christmas’ to honour the mall’s ten years of evolution.

“To tie in with the theme, we reused and recycled props and decorative pieces amassed over the past ten years since the first Christmas to commemorate the journey we embarked on.

“They are revamped, reimagined, and employed from a new perspective to fit in with the new pieces acquired – in harmony.

“This is in line with the fundamental principle that Plaza Merdeka is built on,” said Plaza Merdeka executive director Datin Anriza Wong Cordero.

The ‘Memory of Christmas’ was officially launched tonight by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) mayor Datu Junaidi Reduan and his wife Datin Dayangku Rohani Awangku Kassim, Plaza Merdeka managing director Dato Steve Ng, and Wong.

Other Plaza Merdeka directors present included Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot and his wife Puan Sri Teresa Tayod, as well as Datin Azerina Mohd Arip.

Additionally, shoppers will have the opportunity to win fantastic prizes such as a TV and an iPhone through the Lucky Draw.

A variety of Christmas events and activities are planned for shoppers to participate in, including a Christmas Tree Making Contest, Santa Appearance, Christmas Party, Christmas Carol and Performances, Christmas Open Mic, Wishing Tree, Christmas Charity Drive, and more. — DayakDaily
