KUCHING, May 16: More Sarawakians could own their preferred type of house in their desired location if the Sarawak government’s Housing Deposit and Repayment Scheme (HDRAS) were extended to all housing development projects and the deposit amount increased to RM30,000 or 10 per cent of the house purchase price, whichever is lower.

Highlighting this, organising chairman of Sarawak Housing Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Property Expo 2024, Steve Tan, said the encouraging sales transactions during last year’s expo indicated that there are still plenty of genuine buyers, particularly in the residential market, looking for homes within the affordable price range.

“The sales value in the previous year’s expo totalled over RM34million over three days of the expo.

“Additionally, it revealed that 60 per cent of the transacted properties were priced at RM500,000 and below,” he said in a statement today.

This year, he announced that this Sarawak’s largest property expo is set to return on Sept 6 to 8 at the Borneo Convention Centre (BCCK).

Tan emphasised that Sheda is committed to connect and facilitate people to home ownership particularly Sarawakians to benefit from the RM10,000 provided by the Sarawak government as payment of deposit to own their first house under the Housing Deposit and Repayment Scheme (HDRAS).

Tan also took the opportunity to record his thanks to the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEX) and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) who had confirmed their support for the event.

He also invited non-property developers to participate in the expo, especially if they offer products or services that could enhance the lifestyle of buyers through a comprehensive and enriching living experience for property owners.

Potential exhibitors are urged to register their participation early to secure their booths in preferred locations and benefit from early bird discounts, which are only available until June 14, 2024.
