KUCHING, Feb 13: Netizens are advised to be careful when posting their writing and comments online.
Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri believed that netizens should exercise high level of responsibility and ethical code of conduct when they want to make any comments or public write-ups.
In the aftermath of Facebook postings made by former journalist Joseph Tawie on May 10 and 13, 2019, Nancy recounted how netizens reacted by commenting without checking, bashing her on social media, and being subsequently distressed by the online postings.
“That’s why I have to do this (to initiate a legal proceeding against Joseph Tawie) and it is not cheap,” she said.
“I could not keep quiet and the court case is just to prove that I am not wrong.”
“I hope that netizens can learn a lesson from the case,” she said when asked by reporters on advice for netizens who like to comment and make online postings.
Thus, Nancy urged netizens to check their comments and write-ups before publishing and be ethical and responsible when it comes to publishing their remarks or comments online.
Joseph was brought to court for publishing defamatory and false statements as well as trying to cause racial discord upon covering a function at Sadong Jaya last year.
In the meantime, Joseph has admitted his wrongdoings and has made a public apology to Nancy which she accepted. —DayakDaily
