KUCHING, Apr 1: A former district council secretary has turned a 30-acre farm in Meradong into a sustainable model of cattle farming, producing his own feed from natural materials to reduce reliance on commercial inputs while maintaining livestock quality.

In a Facebook post, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Natural Resources Datuk Len Talif Salleh highlighted Ahmad Jerry’s farm along Jalan KJD, which currently houses 38 healthy local-breed cattle.

“The farm’s feed is made entirely from natural resources such as oil palm leaves, napier grass, banana stems, and fresh grass. This approach helps control operational costs while supporting the wellbeing of the animals,” he said.

Len added that the initiative reflects the expertise and dedication of Ahmad, a former secretary of the Matu Daro District Council (MDMD) and RADDA officer, and his wife Hamidah Jeraie who have more than 20 years of experience in livestock farming.

He commended the couple for their innovative approach, saying their work not only strengthens food security but also serves as an inspiration to the local community. — DayakDaily
