European countries eyeing investments in Sarawak’s oil and gas sector

BINTULU, March 18: European countries are eyeing Sarawak’s growing oil and gas sector as it is keen to start investments especially in the natural gas field that could be supplied to their countries in the near and long-term.

The Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Malaysia, His Excellency Michalis Rokas highlighted this during a meeting with Bintulu Port Sn Bhd at Kidurong Club here on Wednesday (March 16).

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), European countries want to deepen ties with Malaysia, especially Sarawak, in order to expand investments in Asian markets.


Michalis has visited several industrial areas in Bintulu including the Malaysia Liquified Natural Gas (MLNG) plant, Bintulu port and Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB) Kidurong.

In the meeting with Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd, all parties have discussed about the attractive investment opportunities in Bintulu as the European countries are eager to start their investment in the natural gas field.

Also present were Bintulu Port Holding Berhad chief executive officer Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah, MLNG operation general manager Fakhrul Abdullah, SOPB chief financial officer Tho Kheng Chiang and administrative officer cum liaison officer to the EU Ambassador Harun Hatta. — DayakDaily
