Entertainment outlet in Sibu catches fire; no casualties reported

KUCHING, July 23: A fire broke out at KL Lounge Club, an entertainment outlet along Jalan Maju in Sibu, early this morning, affecting two ground-floor shoplots of a three-storey building.

TVS reported that, according to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre (PGO), the emergency call was received at 7.11am.

“A team from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), led by PBK I Chuma Jadam and comprising 10 firefighters, arrived at the scene just two minutes later.

“The fire involved approximately 40 per cent of the total structure of the two affected shoplots. No victims were reported in the incident,” it said in a statement today.

Firefighters quickly deployed a 100-foot nozzle line, supported by a fire engine pump and nearby fire hydrant, to bring the fire under control and fully extinguish the flames.

The operation ended at 8.04am after ensuring the area was safe.

Also present at the scene were police and Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) personnel to assist with safety and electricity supply matters.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. — DayakDaily
