KUCHING, Aug 18: The Asian Association for Sport Management (AASM) Conference 2023 holds immense significance due to the pivotal role of the sports industry in propelling economic growth.
Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian emphasised the imperative of empowering the national sports community to drive substantial policy reforms and effective implementation, thereby enhancing the sports landscape in Malaysia.
“This conference serve as a platform for diverse stakeholders to advance research and development within the sports industry.
“I am delighted to witness the convergence of stakeholders spanning various disciplines, both domestic and international, to share their insights and perspectives on key issues confronting the sports sector,” he said in his text-of-speech read by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng when officiating the AASM 2023 Gala Dinner at Imperial Hotel here tonight.
Themed ‘The Asian Sport Industry and the Sustainability Agenda: Action and Education through Sport’, the conference echoes the Sarawak government’s goal in prioritising its sustainability agendas and aligning the destination’s development path with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The conference is not only timely, but also relevant given the seriousness of our government in developing our sports industry.
“I trust that the deliberations will serve as an invaluable references and guidelines for improving both local and regional developments,” Dr Sim added.
Meanwhile, Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony of the AASM 2023 tomorrow (Aug 19).
The two-day conference includes keynote speeches from world renowned sport management experts, panel discussions, Asian sports management summit, Asian Students’ Forum, parallel sessions, poster presentations and sports industry showcase.
AASM president Dr Cheng-Nan Kang and Kuching Badminton Association president Dr Ong Kong Swee were among those present at the event. — DayakDaily
