Eligible voters in Batu Kawah urged to update address

KUCHING, Oct 19: Eligible voters residing in Batu Kawah are urged to update their address details as soon as possible so that they can cast their vote in Batu Kawah constituency for the coming Sarawak Election.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kawah branch in a statement today said those who have reached the age of 18 are now eligible to vote once Undi18 is in effect.

“With the implementation of Undi18, voter structure in a constituency will change. Taking Batu Kawah constituency as an example, there will be an increase of 2,500 new voters of those aged between 18 to 21-years-old.

“According to the data obtained, the 16,000 new voters in Batu Kawah constituency include those above the age of 21 who have never registered as voter before,” it said.

The branch also mentioned that Batu Kawah constituency will see an increase in non-Chinese voters from 36 per cent to 44 per cent.

“However, we notice that there is an imbalance between total number of houses in Batu Kawah constituency and total voters.

“There are 25,000 houses in the constituency, and if we multiple by two qualified voters in each household, the total number of voters should be at least 50,000 yet the current data shows that there are only less than 38,000 voters, and this statistic already includes the number of new voters under Undi18.

“Hence, Batu Kawah residents should update their address as soon as possible, so that they can cast their votes in Batu Kawah constituency, where they are living now,” it added. — DayakDaily
