KUCHING, Jan 28: More than 647,000 consumers throughout Sarawak will continue to enjoy discounts on their electricity and water bills for another six months until the end of June 2022.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, in announcing the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 8.0 today, said these discounts are an extension of the discounts offered last year to provide relief to the domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers as the economy and social sectors begin to reopen.
“The Sarawak government will continue with the initiative to provide five to 25 per cent discounts on electricity bills starting January until June 2022.
“The Sarawak government will bear the discounts totalling RM166.8 million,” he said in a special press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
Domestic consumers will enjoy a 25 per cent discount on their monthly bill, while normal commercial businesses (15 per cent), industry I1 and I2 (10 per cent), and Industry I3 (5 per cent).
As for water bills, a discount of 10 to 25 per cent will apply for domestic, commercial, and industry consumers, involving a total cost of RM24 million.
Domestic users will enjoy 25 per cent off their monthly bill, while commercial business 15 per cent, and industry sector 10 per cent.
The BKKS 8.0 has rolled out seven packages that involve RM285.47 million to reduce the financial burden on the people post-Covid-19 pandemic.
Abang Johari pointed out that this assistance demonstrated the Sarawak government’s commitment to the path of socio-economic recovery for the well-being of the people.
“The Sarawak government will always work hard to ensure all the measures announced in the BKSS packages will benefit the targeted groups,” he added. ā DayakDaily
