Elderly woman killed, husband injured in collision after lorry cuts into lane along Jalan Pan Borneo, Miri

KUCHING, Dec 9: An elderly woman was killed while her husband was injured after their car collided with a lorry along the KM876 Jalan Pan Borneo in Beluru, Miri, yesterday afternoon.

The fatal crash occurred at around 1.15pm and involved a lorry driven by a 51-year-old local man and a car driven by a 73-year-old local man, who had his 71-year-old wife as a passenger.

According to Miri District Police (PDRM), initial investigations found that the lorry driver had moved from the left lane to the right, where the car subsequently struck the rear right side of the lorry. The impact killed the female passenger at the scene. The driver of the car sustained minor injuries, while the lorry driver was unharmed.

Miri District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said in a statement, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“The public who have information regarding this incident are asked to come forward to assist in the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Mohd FaizulAb Rahim at 014-858258/085-430479 or any nearby police station,” he added.

Road users are also reminded to practice safe and responsible driving and to adhere to traffic regulations at all times to prevent similar tragedies. – DayakDaily
