KUCHING, Oct 18: An elderly couple sustained injuries after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a lorry along Jalan Batu Kawa this morning.
It was learnt that the elderly couple, Bong Vui Kuet, 66, and Ten Kee Moi, 68, were trapped after the collision but members of the public successfully removed them from the wrecked vehicle.
The lorry driver did not suffer any injuries.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement said a distress call was received from MERS 999 at 9.23am.
Following that, a team of nine firemen with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) ambulance led by PBK II Awang Saifull Awang Nusi were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“At the scene, firemen discovered the accident involving a Perodua Kancil and a lorry.
“Both victims were removed from the vehicle before Bomba arrived. They were handed over to our EMRS team and sent to Sarawak General Hospital,” the statement said, adding that the entire operation ended at 9.54am. — DayakDaily
