KUCHING, Sept 2: Eight students received financial aid through the Tertiary Education Assistance Fund presented by Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen at Kampung Haji Baki today.
According to a statement, Chong said that the programme was undertaken by the Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) service centres to help students pursue their tertiary education.
Chong, who is Sarawak DAP chairman, said the criteria for the application is based on the combined income of the applicant’s parents, which is below RM7,000 per month, and that the applicant must be enrolled at a local public or private university or college for their first degree or diploma course.
The Padungan assemblyman added that since the programme started in March this year, more than 300 students have benefitted from the programme.
“It is my focus to utilise my parliamentary allocation for education purposes such as helping students and upgrading or improving teaching facilities.
“I hope that this little fund will not only help lighten the financial burden of the parents but also serve as an encouragement to the students to strive better in their studies,” he said. — DayakDaily
