KUCHING, Nov 21: Eight people comprising seven Indonesians and a local man were killed in a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Sarikei-Sibu.
According to a report from Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre today, they received a call regarding the incident at 3.40pm and despatch a team from Bomba Sarikei to the location.
Upon arrival at the scene, the operation commander reported that the incident involved a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) which had collided with a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle.
Two of the victims, who were traveling in the MPV, were thrown out of the vehicle by the impact of the collision and confirmed dead at the location by medical personnel from Ministry of Health (MOH), while six others were pinned inside the MPV.
The pinned victims were later extricated by firefighters using rescue tools and were also confirmed dead at the location.
Two other individuals who were traveling on the 4WD vehicle also suffered injuries.
The victims’ bodies were later handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
