Eight men in Kapit arrested for cockfighting, slapped with RM10,000 fine each

KAPIT, March 23: Eight men have been fined RM10,000 each for breaching conditional movement control order for suspected involvement in illegal cock fighting activity yesterday.

Kapit District police chief, DSP Freddy Bian said at about 2.45pm a team from the criminal investigation department conducted a raid at an open space behind a house at Taman Country Height after receiving a tip-off on illegal cock fighting activity.

“During the raid, the team arrested eight persons aged between 45 to 54. They had also seized 10 cock fighting spurs, seven live roosters, a dead one and a weighing machine,” he said.

The suspects were brought to the police station for investigation under Section 3(1) of the Cruelty to Animals Act 1963.

DSP Freddy added that compound of RM10,000 were issued to each suspect for the offence under Regulation 9 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020. — DayakDaily
