KUCHING, Sept 14: Efforts to repair a collapsed stretch of road at Long Miri are underway.

The affected stretch of road is between Kampung Daleh, Long Pelutan and Kampung Long Pilah.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau when contacted said the timber company operating in the area has given assurance that the road will be repaired as fast as possible.

According to Dennis, there are over 30 villages at Long Pilah. He estimated that more than 20,000 people will be affected.

“The road is a major access road shared by the villagers and the timber company. The company already has its machinery in place and repair works are underway.

“As it is a major landslide, it will take some time to repair. But the timber company promised to repair it as fast as they can,” said Dennis.

The road collapsed following incessant rain in the area over the past two days.

The incident happened yesterday and since then, photos of the affected stretch have gone viral on social media. — DayakDaily
