KUCHING, Sept 14: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has agreed to delegate authority to the Sarawak education director to approve school maintenance projects funded by the Sarawak government or other external parties, in accordance with existing guidelines.
This decision is part of the 10 demands submitted by the Sarawak government through the Joint Action Committee for Educational Development (JTBPP), which has been fully endorsed by the MOE as part of broader efforts to enhance education in Sarawak.
In a news report by TVS, MOE outlined several initiatives, including strengthening collaboration with the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), and permitting the recruitment of Contract of Service (CoS) teachers, subject to approval by the Education Service Commission (SPP).
Additionally, the implementation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes will be prioritised based on needs, with further involvement in planning educational development projects.
In a statement issued yesterday (Sept 13), MOE also mentioned that the Sarawak JTBPP meeting took place in February, while Sabah’s JTBPP meeting is scheduled for October.
MOE noted that the Implementation Action Council meeting on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MTPMA63), chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday (Sept 12), aims to further strengthen education in both Sabah and Sarawak.
“Key discussions included consulting with the Sarawak education director on appointing district education officers, principals, and headmasters to fill vacancies and acting roles before final approval by the MOE, as stipulated under the Education Act 1996 (Act 550),” the statement added.
Emphasising that the positive results of establishing JTBPP, MOE reaffirmed its commitment to closely collaborate with the Sabah and Sarawak governments to further advancing education in the Borneo regions in line with the unity spirit of MA63. — DayakDaily
