Eating get-together sparks new Jalan Dato Permaisuri Cluster in Miri, 31 infected

KUCHING, May 25: A gathering to eat food at a residence in Miri sparked a new Covid-19 cluster known as the Jalan Dato Permaisuri Cluster, infecting 31 people.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Jalan Dato Permaisuri Cluster is a community cluster caused by a social gathering on May 1 which was attended by 10 people not from the same household.

In the meantime, a total of 176 individuals related to the cluster have been screened for Covid-19.

From this, 31 individuals tested positive, 123 tested negative and the balance of 22 individuals are awaiting their Covid-19 swab test results.

SDMC added all the positive cases have been referred to Miri Hospital and admitted to the quarantine and low-risk treatment centre in Miri for isolation and treatment.

Meanwhile, two Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak ended today following zero detection of infections over the past 28 days.

They are the Jalan Kapitan Cluster in Marudi and the Pujut Satu Cluster in Miri.

As of today, Sarawak has 84 active clusters, with nine clusters reporting 52 new cases. — DayakDaily
