KUCHING, Jan 27: Seven blocks of workers’ quarters housing some 130 local and foreign workers at Bormill Estate, Jalan Keretapi were destroyed by fire at about 3.25am today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement said although all occupants were at their respective quarters at the time of the incident, they managed to save themselves from the inferno, and thus no injuries were reported.
“Operations commanding officer PKPgB Ranger Moss reported that seven blocks (Block A to Block G) with an area of 3,433 m² were 80 per cent destroyed when firefighters reached the scene.
“Three fire engines from Batu Lintang and Padungan (fire stations), as well as 27 firefighters were despatched to the location upon receiving distress calls through MERS 999,” the statement disclosed.
Due to low water pressure at the construction site, a prime mover water tanker from the Petra Jaya fire station was despatched to the scene to provide assistance.
