Early morning fire destroys liquor processing factory, damages two warehouses in Sibu

SIBU, April 18: A liquor processing factory was destroyed while two warehouses next to it for ice cream and cooking oil respectively were also affected by an early morning fire in Jalan Tapah today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 Sibu chief Andy Alie said that they received an emergency call from the public regarding a fire at 1.17am.


Following that, he said, a total of 20 firefighters from Sungai Merah and Sibu Central stations were deployed to the scene.

“The fire involved two warehouse lots and one permanent type processing factory lot with an estimated area of ​​72 x 60 square feet.

“The first lot is an ice cream warehouse that suffered five per cent damage while the second lot houses an alcohol processing factory that was burned down and the third lot, a cooking oil warehouse, was five per cent destroyed,” he said.

The fire was completely extinguished at 5.30am.

Andy said the fire did not result in any casualties. The cause of the fire and the value of the loss are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
