Dr Dusit Jaul

KUCHING, Jan 15: Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association president Dr Dusit Jaul is not a Democratic Action Party (DAP) member despite being appointed a Special Function Officer to Minister of Communications and Multimedia Gobind Singh Deo, effective yesterday.

“I am not a member of DAP. My appointment, I believe, was based on professionalism and my experience,” Dusit told DayakDaily today.

He said his portfolio includes all agencies under the ministry. Among them are broadcasting networks such as Radio Television Malaysia, Information Department, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas), Bernama and Sarawak Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“I am grateful to be given the trust by the minister to represent him in Sarawak. I will do my level best to execute the mandate by the minister to make these agencies more effective and relevant.”

Dusit called on all social media users to be responsible and to exercise integrity when making public issues, pictures and videos.

He said, in general, Sarawakians were still decent people who would not use social media to achieve mean aims.

“I think Sarawakians are basically still alright. Yes, there are cases here and there, this cannot be helped.

“However, I would like to say that we must report what is factual and have to be honest with ourselves. The control is within ourselves.

“No matter how many laws we pass, if there is no internal control, there will still be irresponsible publications of untruthful news,” he said. — DayakDaily
