Duo detained for allegedly possessing firearms without permit

The shotguns and six live ammunition seized from the suspects.

KAPIT, Oct 22: Two men have been arrested for having in possession two shotguns and some ammunition illegally in an unnumbered house at KM 5, Jalan Bukit Goram, Sungai Pelajau yesterday.

The suspects, aged 46 and 50-year-old respectively, and who are related were apprehended during a raid at the house last night.

Kapit District Police Chief, DSP Freddy Bian said the police team found two shotguns and six bullets in the house.


“A police team from the Kapit IPD Criminal Investigation Department then took the suspects to the police station together with the two shotguns and six live ammunition,” he said today.

He said the shotguns were used by the suspects for hunting wild game.

“They would be remanded and investigated under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960 on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a license.
