KUCHING, March 23: Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has allocated RM260,000 to help improve the facilities at Sibu Hospital, for the comfort of patients and healthcare workers.
According to a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the allocation will be used to install 38 air conditioning units in five hospital wards, upgrade toilet facilities, and purchase several refrigerators for the daily needs of patients and medical staff.

“I was informed that the hospital’s central air conditioning system is malfunctioning, causing the conditions in the wards to become hot and uncomfortable for patients, and making it difficult for healthcare workers to perform their duties,” the Dudong Assemblyman said after visiting the hospital yesterday.
Responding to public complaints and feedback, Tiong said he had swiftly directed the Dudong Service Centre to fast-track the installation of 36 air conditioning units across several wards, to ensure better airflow and a more comfortable environment for everyone.
Aside from that, he announced the upgrading of the hospital toilets, the installation of accessibility features for the convenience of the elderly and patients with mobility issues, as well as the addition of refrigeration units for storing food and medications.
“Air conditioning, toilets, and refrigerators are among the most important basic necessities, and we must do everything possible to improve this infrastructure and these essential facilities.
“Patients have the right to receive treatment in a comfortable environment, and at the same time, providing a complete working environment will lighten the workload of healthcare staff, allowing them to fully focus on delivering high-quality medical care,” he said.
He also urged the relevant authorities to adopt a more proactive approach in maintaining and improving healthcare facilities in Sibu, ensuring that residents continue to receive treatment in a safe and conducive environment. – DayakDaily
