KUCHING, March 24: Dudong assemblyman Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has called on the public to extend aid to flood victims at temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

In a Facebook post on March 23, Tiong, who is the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, said during his visit to the Sibu Jaya Community Centre PPS, an immediate concern brought up was the insufficient water supply, which he requested the relevant authorities to expedite a solution.

“Additionally, considering the needs of vulnerable groups, especially the elderly with mobility challenges, we have provided tables at designated areas to place essential supplies. This arrangement ensures easier access to aid, minimising unnecessary movement and fatigue.

“As this incident coincides with Ramadan, special arrangements have been made to accommodate the dietary needs of evacuees and staff. I have been in close coordination with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) to ensure that our Muslim brothers and sisters have hot meals for iftar,” he said.

He also added that he went to the supermarket to purchase drinks, dry food, and other essential supplies to replenish the centre’s food stock.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all responders and volunteers who have been working tirelessly around the clock to provide aid.

“In these trying times, I urge the public to join the relief efforts and extend a helping hand to those in need. Let us stand together and support one another through this challenging period,” he said.

There are currently 65 evacuees at the Sibu Jaya Community Centre PPS.
